Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The previous season concluded in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a offender.
Yet, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans watch the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new installment."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the network announced on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
